Nabil Elderkin is an accomplished photographer who has been adding more video work to his resume. He recently uploaded this video for Jeremy Scott's ADIDAS line. The song, "Get It Up" by Esau Mwamwaya featuring M.I.A. and Santagold, fits the tribal look of the clothing perfectly. Check it: I wonder if Nabil is part of G.O.O.D. Music. Probably not. Perhaps Kanye just likes his work, and has suggested him to direct his artists video. I especially like this John Legend clip for the 8mm work. And I really liked City Of God. Is that random?
Jay-z featuring Kanye West and Rihanna. Directed by Anthony Mandler. I know every other hip-hop blog has posted this, but hey... I'm feeling this joint, as well as the video.
Though I've seen the logo, commercials, news blurbs, and unbeknownst to me have seen some of his jewelry on local Chicago artists, I never knew it was Mr. Tastees. He screen prints his own shirts, then sells them out of either his ice cream cart or from his turquoise ice cream truck. Dope concept. Did I mention he's from Chicago? Mr. Tastees has put together a Visual Mixtape consisting of a few Chicago artists that he has done custom jewelry pieces for. Check it:
I love films that fuse live action and animation together, and this piece does not disappoint on that tip. The graphic work and cinematography are on point as well. Aside from all the technical stuff, I like this joint because its crazy! Its off the wall crazy... and were those ninjas!?!? This piece also does a great job of getting sleepers up to speed on the local Chicago music scene. I just wish it were longer... I want more!
Quentin has had Inglorious Basterds in the works (I believe the writing stages) since the release of the Kill Bill volumes, thus I've been waiting for it that long. August 21st I can stop waiting and allow my eyeballs to explode from what will hopefully be a glorious cinematic feat of amazingness. Huh?
Then on October 16th I can finally let the 11 year old KiD in me be frightened by the huge monsters, yet let the adult in me be amazed by the imagination of Mr. Spike Jonze's highly anticipated Where The Wild Things Are. The latest trailer does not disappoint. Check the landscapes:
One of my favorite sites just did a short interview on Rick Klotz, the head of Freshjive, and his reasons for deciding to no longer use any brand logos or names on Freshjive products beginning in 2010. Quite an interesting read. Click the pic for the interview! Actually, I think it'll bring even more attention to his brand, and its something Freshjive supporters can talk about. Like the secret you know as part of the in-crowd.
Mr. Hughes has written and directed some of the most successful 1980s comedies: Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, Uncle Buck, Home Alone, and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. Cult classics. I won't even go into how iconic Ferris Bueller is, plus he inspired the Brat Pack. Most of his films took place in or around Chicago. I always thought it was cool seeing well known Chicago landmarks or just random Chicago city blocks in movies. I always said I would take that approach if I became a filmmaker. Thank you Mr. Hughes.
This is the official cover art for Jay-z's Blueprint 3. Intriguing to say the least. This is definitely much more artistic than any of his other album covers. I mean, he's not even on it. I'm sill buying it September 11th... which is also intriguing 'cause that's a Friday, not your normal release Tuesday.
Perhaps this means it will be a cacophony of sound. Hope not - though I'm not a big of the D.O.A. joint. I'm just saying. Chicago point of interest: Kanye and No I.D. did the lion's share of the album. Its bound to at least sound good.
My man Harold Green of Black Orchard is promoting a new mixtape:
I guess I should probably mention I shot a few of the clips used in this piece including the interview portion, and produced one of the tracks used. Check out Mr. Green's latest mixtape, The Daily Harold (The Sunday Edition).
